CHAP Volleyball has just a few 'requirements' in terms of equipment and appropriate athletic-wear for practices and games. 

FOR PRACTICES:

Not much is needed to play volleyball except the following:

• Volleyball knee pads - These protect player's knees from injury and pain when diving for a ball.
• A good pair of gym shoes  - No specific type of shoe is needed, although they do sell shoes specifically made for volleyball. Any type of workout/tennis shoe should be fine, just be sure they fit well, offer good arch support, are fairly lightweight, have good traction/grip, and are made for indoor sport court use so they won't leave black marks on the floor. 
• Comfortable, well-fitting T-shirt - Nothing too small (too short or too tight), nor too big and baggy.  Either will negatively affect your ability to move quickly on the court.  ALL shirts should fit so that no sports bras, cleavage, or bare midriffs are showing. They should be long enough to still cover your stomach, even when jumping or diving.
• Shorts - Again, comfortable and well-fitting, and NO SPANDEX- at least not as outerwear!  We realize that spandex is the norm for most of the volleyball world, but in the homeschool volleyball realm, players wear longer, looser shorts. We require at least a 3" inseam so that all undergarments and buttocks are completely covered.  Spandex shorts are ONLY acceptable IF players are wearing appropriate shorts over them. Spandex leggings/ yoga pants MAY be worn with a long shirt over them.

REMEMBER: THE GOAL IS MODESTY. As followers of Christ, it is important that we show love, honor, and respect for our brothers and sisters in Christ with our clothing choices. Since CHAP serves a variety of families who differ in their views on modesty, we have sought to establish a common ground in order to respect all of our members. 

Other suggestions:

• Remove any jewelry - Wearing earrings, bracelets, necklaces , or rings can injure you or someone else on the court. Be sure to take off all of those items before playing and store them somewhere safe.
• Tie your hair back - Put hair in a ponytail or braid if it's long enough, and use a headband or hair clips to keep hair off your face and out of your eyes.

FOR GAMES:

12U & 14U -

UNIFORM JERSEYS will be provided by CHAP and returned at the end of the season. Before the first game, players will be given an opportunity to try on jerseys and choose one that fits well. Then it will be "checked out" to that player for the entirety of the season, and must be returned by our Season-End Celebration. 

JV & VARSITY -

UNIFORM JERSEYS must be purchased by players & and their families, as they are personalized with each player's last name on the back. We try to use the same jersey for all teams at these levels, so if you've played for CHAP at this level before you shouldn't need to buy a new jersey. However, if you are new to the program or moving up from 14U, there  will be a jersey fee.  Varsity level will usually require the purchase of two jerseys, a green and a white, for home and away games.

SHORTS AT ALL LEVELS, BOYS AND GIRLS -

All players are asked to purchase their own solid black shorts to wear with the uniform jerseys.  The same guidelines apply for games as listed above for practices... Shorts must fit well and be long enough ( a minimum of at least a 3" inseam) and loose enough (no spandex as outerwear), but not so baggy that they slip down, to ensure maximum mobility on the court.
