HOMESCHOOL REQUIREMENTS
All players on our homeschool team must be homeschooled.*
*Homeschooled (for the purposes of this homeschool volleyball program) means parent-directed and home-based educational instruction:
· Parent-directed: A program planned and overseen by the parents or legal guardians, who are directly responsible for and involved in this student’s education. Parents must be playing the role of the "headmaster", thereby (1) selecting curriculum, (2) selecting and/or approving course materials and study schedules, and (3) teaching themselves, or selecting tutors, co-ops, teachers, dual enrollment options, and/or resources for their child’s education.
· Home-based: An organized educational program (per Michigan’s homeschool statute) taught primarily in the student’s home, covering the following subject areas: Language Arts (reading, spelling, literature, writing, & English grammar), Mathematics, Science, History, and Civics.
Homeschooling MAY include:
* Teaching done primarily by the student’s parents or legal guardian;
* Correspondence or online courses completed from home under the direction and supervision of the parents; or
* Courses taught outside the home by other homeschool parents, grandparents, and tutors, provided it is done under the direction & supervision of the parents; or
* Apprenticeships, internships, or vocational/technical classes outside the home which are part of the student’s parent-directed home education program; or
* Dual-enrolled courses at a college, AS LONG AS the student has been admitted to the college as a high school student, and the student is recognized by all entities involved as a high school student, homeschooled as defined above and still under the direction and supervision of their parents.
Homeschooled does NOT mean:
* More than 50% of a student's educational instruction coming from classes at a Christian, private, charter, or public high school - virtual or in-person.
* College classes taken at a University or College as a college student.
* Employed more than 30 hours per week.
AGE & GENDER REQUIREMENTS
AGE- A player's age group is determined by his or her age on September 1 of the current school year.
Players on a Varsity roster must be 18 years old or younger as of September 1st of the current season. (May not have turned 19 years old prior to Sept. 1)
Players on a JV roster must be 16 years old or younger as of September 1st of the current season. (May not have turned 17 years old prior to Sept. 1)
Players on a Jr. High roster must be 14 years old or younger as of September 1st of the current season. (May not have turned 15 years old prior to Sept. 1)
Players on an Elementary roster must be 12 years old or younger as of September 1st of the current season. (May not have turned 13 prior to Sept. 1)
Ideally our CHAP volleyball players would play at the level determined by their age:
A player may be moved up for various reasons as listed previously, determined by CHAP's leadership team and coaches. But players can NOT be playing down on a team younger than their age, except in rare and unique situations (ex: due to disabilities) - in which case parents and coaches will determine together the most appropriate team for that player.
GENDER- A player is only eligible to play in the gender division that aligns with their biological sex at birth, as recorded on the original birth certificate.
