Sr. High XC:

If you have any questions about the CHAP Cross Country program, please contact Head Coach Kevin Shoemaker at

Tryouts/Team Placements will take place August 2nd, 3rd, and 5th at Lansing City Arena (904 Elmwood Rd, Lansing, MI 48917)

Age eligibility is determined by the child's age on Sept 1, 2021. For example, if a child turns 13 on September 2nd they are still eligible to play in 12U age division because they were 12 on September 1st. Although they are eligible for 12U, you may choose to register them for tryouts of an older team, but that doesn't guarantee placement on that team.  This example applies to all age groups

Times are as follows:

MONDAY, AUGUST 2, 3:00-5:00pm, at Lansing City Arena - JV and Varsity only

  • If your daughter desires to play on either CHAP's JV or Varsity teams this year, she should plan to be here if at all possible.
  • Any young men desiring to play on our newly formed CHAP Varsity boys team, should be here, as well.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 3, 5:00-7:00pm, at Lansing City Arena - 14U girls and boys

  •  For those age 14 and under (as of 9/1/21) who desire to play on one of our 14U teams (We hope to have two 14U girls' teams and a 14U boys team.)

TUESDAY, AUGUST 3, 7:00-9:00pm, at Lansing City Arena - JV and Varsity final decisions

  • One last opportunity to try out for our JV or Varsity teams (For girls, we plan to have one Varsity team and two JV teams, along with a Varsity boys team.)

THURSDAY, AUGUST 5, 6:30-8:30pm, at Lansing City Arena - 12U girls

  • For all those ages 9-12 ( as of 9/1/21) who desire to play on one of our 12U teams.  (We plan to have three teams for girls this age, as long as we can find enough coaches... probably two 12Us and a 10U.)

* PLEASE NOTE -- If your child wants to play CHAP Volleyball this fall season, but cannot make it to tryouts the week of August 2-5, we ask you to go ahead and register your child and pay the deposit fee, anyway. Then we ask you to please email Kim Winter ( to let us know your child hopes to play but cannot make it to tryouts. We will do our best to find a spot for everyone who wants to play on our CHAP teams, based on their age... We hope to make room for all who'd like to play, but reserve the right to let you know our teams are full if we're unable to find enough coaches.  In this case, we will refund your deposit if there is no team fee to apply it to.

*** HELP WANTED: We could use a few more adults (young adults or older adults :) willing to assist with camp, as well as to help with coaching our various teams throughout the season. If you or anyone else you know might be able to commit to helping out,  please share this link: Kim at right away.

Youth Soccer Big News

CHAP is excited to announce that the LA Dragons soccer club has agreed to take over the leadership of homeschool youth soccer in the mid-Michigan area. The LA Dragon board is very like-minded with the CHAP board through their focus on spiritual development in a competitive athletic environment. Over the years dozens of CHAP youth soccer participants have moved on to LA Dragon Junior High and High School teams, so the transition of the youth soccer program to the Dragons is a very natural fit. The Dragons leadership is excited and well-equipped to move mid-Michigan homeschool youth soccer forward in a positive direction. Special thanks to Keith Hall, Mike Potter, Matt Rottman and JT Delaney, who have played integral roles in CHAP's youth soccer program over the years. You can find out more about the Dragon program by visiting their website --
