BOYS & GIRLS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS

Here are the teams that are now forming: (all ages are as of Sept. 1 of 2011)

Youth Co-Ed (ages 8-10): These teams practice once a week and play one game a week at Capital City Baptist on Saturday mornings (9 game season).  Practices begin in mid-November, first game early December.  Cost is $100 per player.  We will be having our Youth Round Up again this year in early November, so watch our website for more information.

The “Youth Round Up” is a one-time gathering off all children interested in playing in our Youth league at the beginning of the basketball season.  We gather all the interested 8-10 year olds and hold a 1-1.5 hour mini-camp where we go through some basic drills and the coaches evaluate the skill levels of all the players for the purpose of dividing up the players into teams with skill levels as equal as possible.

Boys Elementary Travel (ages 12 and under): Tryouts will be on October 27-28 for this team, at Court One North (1609 Lake Lansing Rd., Lansing, MI 48912) from 7:30 – 9:30pm.  1 practice per week, approximate 14 game season, with some travel involved.  Cost is $150 per player.

CHAP makes every attempt to provide a quality basketball experience for as many homeschool athletes who desire to play as possible.  Exact number of teams, coaching needs, practice locations, etc. cannot be finalized until we hear from you!  Please register now, for practices will start in late October and early November.

NEW REGISTRATION FEE FORMAT

OLD WAY:  In past years, up front team registration fees were kept at levels that paid for less than half the cost to run the team with the balance of cost being covered through the sponsors who advertise in our annual CHAP Program along with other private donations.  In the past, to help cover team costs, we asked three things of our CHAP families:

o        Pay the registration fee

o        Solicit sponsors for our CHAP Program (sponsors ads are placed in our Program)

o        Pay admission fees for home games above the Youth team level

NEW WAY:  In order to ensure that costs are covered consistently year-in and year-out, to make fund raising through our CHAP Program purely voluntary (no pressure to fund raise), and to provide a means for athletes to raise funds to cover their registration fees if desired, this year the registration fee format will work as follows:

o        The registration fee for each team member has been increased over previous years and set at a level that will cover most of the actual cost for that player for their entire season (all practices, games, referees, etc.).

o        If an athlete chooses to solicit ads for our CHAP Program, 90% of every dollar he or she brings in will be applied against their registration fee, (the remaining 10% goes toward the cost of the creating and printing the program.)  If an athlete raises enough CHAP Program dollars to cover their fee, they play for free!  If an athlete raises funds beyond the individual team registration fee amount, these dollars will be used by CHAP to help cover other obligations such as uniforms, and other various administration costs. (CHAP Program details will be sent to all registrants – Remember, participation in the CHAP Program effort is totally voluntary).

o        FREE ADMISSION TO ALL HOME GAMES.   No game admission fees will be charged to all CHAP players immediate family members for home games (non-family members and visiting team fans will be charged an admission fee as in the past for all home games not held on Saturday morning at Capital City Baptist).

HOW AND WHEN ARE REGISTRATION FEES TO BE PAID?

We have had several question concerning how to pay registration fees since we have made several changes from years past.    There are three ways to do this and any of these three options are acceptable:

1.)   One of the changes this year is that every dollar you chose to raise with our CHAP Program Guide is credited against you registration fee(s).  So, you may wait until you are done soliciting ads for the Program Guide, and then turn in a check for the difference between the funds you raised and your registration fee.   For example, if you have a Youth player with a $75 registration fee and brought in $50 in donations for an ad in the Program Guide, when you send in the Program Guide donations, also send in a check for $35 ($75 registration fee - $45 ($50 x .90) Program Guide donation = $35 balance due).  Please note that the deadline to turn in this years' Program Guide ads is November 21, 2011.

2.)   You can send us a check with your registration form for the full amount of the registration fee, and CHAP will send you a refund check for every Program Guide donation you bring in up to the full amount of the registration fee.  If you do not wish to take advantage of the Program Guide fundraising opportunity, then this option is preferred.

3.)   If it would be helpful to your family to set up a payment plan for the registration fees, we would be very willing to work with you to set something up that works for you.  If this is of interest, please contact David or Michele Gingery at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and give us a phone number and convenient time to contact you).

Please note that we need to have all registration fees received or payment plans put in place by the first game of the season, or November 21 (the Program Guide deadline), whichever date is later.

Many, many thanks for your help, participation and prayers as we pursue together excellence in homeschool athletics for our children.  Our vision reaches well beyond just providing a winter activity or winning basketball games.  Together, let’s develop physical skills, strength, and endurance along with strong Christian character in our athletes this season.  Let us do so in such a manner as to present a powerful testimony to the world in which we live.  A world which so desperately needs to see the character of our Savior in the lives of those He calls his children.

GO CHARIOTS!
